Zelma M. Denton March 13, 1920 – January 03, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Zelma Maxine Denton, 98, a resident of Union City, and formerly of Samburg, died Thursday, January 3, 2019, at The Waters of Union City. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Saturday in the chapel of White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Barnett and Rev.

Charles Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak. Visitation will be Saturday at White-Ranson from 12 noon until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Hailey, Bret Hailey, Travis Hailey, Chad Hailey, Vesa Ponkka and Brent Callicott. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to charities of your choice. Mrs. Denton was born March 13, 1920, to the late Clarence “Speedy” Spicer and Iva Mae (Summers) Spicer.

She married Harvell Denton December 24, 1941. He died July 27, 1995. She worked at the Blue Bank Restaurant on Reelfoot Lake for 35 years.

She was a Baptist and a member of the Walnut Log Baptist Church. She is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia (Lanny) Callicott and Mitzi (Terry) Hailey both of Union City; a son, Joe Denton of Samburg; 5 grandchildren, Brent (Lisa) Callicott of Union City, Kim (Vesa) Ponkka of Huntingtown, Maryland, Chad (Christy) Hailey and Travis (Lonnie) Hailey both of Nashville, and Bret (Chelsea) Hailey of Chattanooga, TN; 4 great grandchildren, Nicole Ponkka of Arlington, VA, Victoria Ponkka of Huntingtown, Maryland, Gracyn Callicott of Union City and Sawyer Hailey of Chattanooga, TN; one sister, Libby Davis of Memphis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jerry Short; and a brother, Clarence “Toonie” Spicer.
