Obituary for A. Ray Garton Allen Ray Garton,78, of Doniphan passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center after a brief battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m on Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army and Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard.

Rev. Julie Bringelsen will officiate. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Ray was born on March 20, 1940 at Bridgeport, NE, to John William and Martha Alta (McNabb) Garton. He grew up and received his education in Bridgeport.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961 and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. On November 15, 1968, Ray married the love of his life, Sheila Spuhler in Grand Island. After residing in Grand Island for 40 years they relocated to Amick Acres near Doniphan, NE.

After various jobs near Bridgeport, Ray moved to Grand Island to begin working at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. Ray decided to put his talents to good use by starting his own business, “Ray’s Special Services”. He always brought a smile to every job, paying special attention to each client’s needs.

Through his work he made many lifelong friends and always made time for anyone who needed a helping hand. Ray was a loving husband, father, and wonderful grandfather. He never met a stranger, and his kindness, generosity and sense of humor was felt by all who knew him.

He enjoyed family, riding in his ’55 Ford, and his special dog, Tequila. Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Sheila; children, Gary (Stacie) Garton of Blue Springs, MO, Corinna Garton of Grand Island, and Nicole (Dennis) SaBell of Aurora, NE; brother, Gerald (Donna) Garton of Alliance; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous extended family and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Alvin (Judy) Garton; sister, Alice “Tootie” (Howard) Stephens; sister-in-law, Dixie Garton.
