Alexander Douglas McEachron “Doug” was born on April 16, 1932 in Cambridge, New York and passed away peacefully December 22nd, 2018 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was a family man and devoted husband to his wife Marjorie, for more than 55 years. Doug is survived by his sons, Mark and Murray McEachron, daughter Susan Devine, five grandchildren, JJ Devine, Cooper Devine, Kristen McEachron, Garrett McEachron, Robert McEachron and his sister, Jane Dillman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie McEachron. Doug grew up in Salem, New York, son of a dairy farmer. He was a hardworking, natural leader, who loved adventure and sports.

Sports became a big part of Doug’s life throughout high school and beyond. At Salem High School, he lettered in baseball, basketball and football. His senior year he was elected class president and president of the high school band.

Doug attended Colgate College where he was an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. In 1954, he received a liberal arts degree in History. Upon graduating, he briefly worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company before serving his country in the Army where he was trained as a Special Agent in Counter Intelligence, and selected to work at the Pentagon.

When Doug completed his two years of service, he received the Secretary of Army Merit Award, given to him by the Chief of Army Intelligence. Doug’s education continued at The American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) where he met his life partner Marjorie, marrying soon after graduation. Doug returned to Goodyear Tire, working nearly 28 years in International Operations.

He and Marjorie began their family and life adventure together living in Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Guatemala. In 1987, Doug retired and together with Marjorie settled down in Palm Harbor, Florida. Doug spent his free time reading several newspapers a day, watching all the major sports events on TV, actively participating in the UU Church, and traveling to exotic locations with Marjorie and friends.

Doug was a caring, kind person whose gift of humor brought people together, making occasions fun and memorable. He will be remembered as a man who honored his country, devoted his life to family and friends, loved a good sports game, sought adventure, and enjoyed making people laugh. Doug asked family to scatter his ashes with those of his wife over the ocean near their retirement home in Palm Harbor.
