Obituary for Alta Teresa Tann Alta Teresa Tann, aged 64, died peacefully on September 28, 2018 at her home with her loving wife of 34 years and her family and friends by her side. Alta was born July 13, 1954, at Lying-Inn Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, the eldest daughter of Alton and Theresa Tann. From a very young age, Alta was a caretaker.
She loved and nurtured her two younger sisters and developed a passion for helping and assisting anyone in life that would ever need a ride across town, food to eat, or a place to call home. Alta received her GED through job corps and earned her Criminal Justice degree from Blackhawk Technical College. She had a purpose-filled career as a domestic violence administrator and director for agencies in Illinois and Wisconsin before retiring in 2007.
On May 17, 1997, Alta married the love of her life Darlene White. She was a cat lover, great gardener and cook and enjoyed reading, going to the casino, making up songs to sing to her grandchildren, and just sitting on her porch with a good cup of coffee and a cigarette. Alta attended Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Beloit and spent her life demonstrating and teaching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren about God’s unconditional love.
Alta’s faith and love ran deep and her spirit was wild. Alta is survived by her spouse, Darlene White; sister, Olivia (Glenn) Howard; daughter, Terese (Timothy) Craig; nieces/daughters Raashee Tann, Bobbi Jo White, and Kathy (Peter) White; nephews/sons Alton, Wesley (Madalyn), Jackie (Javelin), and Obie (Angelica) Tann, all of whom she loved as her children; grandchildren, Alexia (Brian) Little, Ashya Wofford, Destiny and Derrick “DJ” Wash, Mickyla, Mickey Jr., Daniel and Reeasha Burrows; great-grandchildren, Dez’Myon, Kavonni, Kaeyon, Briana, Brian Jr., Brinay, and Kyiala; like grandchildren/great-nieces and nephews, Jermaine and Mariah Fox, Kaylynn and Dayanna Jarrett, and Robert Terry, Jimmy (Lauren) Johnston, Jennifer (Jonathen) Schuldt, and Jessica (Sebastian) Asturrizaga, Alton (AJ) Jr., Jada, Emmett, and Ireland Tann, Nathaniel Harris and Jackie Tann, Eliezer, Passion, J’ashya, Koah and Jordan Tann, Caden Weston-Caliph, Ariel, Amber, Jason, Kennedy, and Obie Tann Jr.; great-great-nieces and nephews, Jimmy Jr., Ellis, and Dahlia Johnston, Sophia and Emily Schuldt, Kaiden Jarrett, and Ronan Asturrizaga; the entire White family; the entire Pleas family; and a host of other relatives and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents Alton and Theresa Tann; sister, Tanya Tann; son, Daniel Jones; and granddaughter, Aleya Wofford.
There will be a celebration of life at Lighthouse Fellowship Church, 112 Merrill Street, Beloit, WI on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Visitation will be held from 11 am to Noon, with funeral services immediately following. The family thanks all of the staff at Beloit Memorial Hospital and UW Hospital that cared for Alta during her illness, with special thank yous to chaplain Nancy Toubl, and Stefanie, Jenna, Hailey, Joanna, Pam and Taleesha, all of Beloit Regional Hospice.
