Obituary for Anna M. Mankopf Anna “Annie” Mankopf, age 91, of Glendive, Montana passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Silha Funeral Home with Father Francis Schreiber officiating.

Rite of Committal will follow in Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Annie was born on September 9, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Ignatius and Wladislawa Jardszewicz.

She was raised and educated in Philadelphia and later met her future husband, John Mankopf, by chance in a movie theater. John had even told a buddy that he was going to marry Annie when he departed the Navy. John didn’t want to marry while he was in the service, but once he was discharged and had a decent job, he was wanted to marry her.

While Annie waited for John she worked for Whitman’s Chocolates as a candy dipper. John held true to his promise though and when he was discharged from the Navy he hired on to the railroad which was known as CB&S at the time. Annie later joined John in Burlington, Iowa where he had been working and they were married in a Lutheran Church.

This was one of sixteen moves due to John’s job with the railroad before they were finally able to settle in Glendive when John became the Assistant Superintendant Mechanical. They were later remarried at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive, because Annie was a devout Catholic. Together Annie and John had one son, John Jr., who was born on October 16, 1970.

Annie’s health began to deteriorate so her and John moved to an assisted living facility in Billings, Montana for a short time before coming back to Glendive to live in the Heritage Assisted Living. She then moved to the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care for a short time due to falls, and then to the Wibaux Nursing Home in Wibaux, Montana. The drive to Wibaux became too much during the winter months however, so she made a final move to the Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home to be nearer to John.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Annie is survived by the love of her life, John Mankopf of Glendive; and her son, John Mankopf, Jr. of Belgrade, Montana. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.
