Obituary for Anna Marie McElroy Deerfield- Anna Marie McElroy, 69, died on Monday, November 12, 2018 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on June 27, 1949 at Granite, Oklahoma the daughter of Lawrence & Marie (Wright) Mitchell. She married Kerry Leland McElroy on August 8, 1970 at Granite, Oklahoma.

He died on January 17, 1999. Anna graduated from Granite High School and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She later earned her English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL) certification from Kansas State University.

Beginning in 1970, Anna enjoyed teaching in both the high school and the elementary for 47 years, retiring just last year after dedicating her life to her students from Deerfield. She was a longtime class sponsor at the school. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Deerfield and the Kansas Chapter of National Education Association.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, her Wednesday hair and nail appointments, being part of her Capsula Club, and was an avid sports fan. She is survived by her Daughter- Amanda Johnson and Son-in-Law Josh of Deerfield, Son- Jeff McElroy of Madison, Wisconsin, Brother- Larry Mitchell of Brownwood, Texas & Granddaughter- Alexandra Johnson of Deerfield. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at United Methodist Church in Deerfield with Rev Doug Olson officiating.

Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Grandchildren’s Education Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.
