Obituary for Jose Antonio H. Rodriguez Jose Antonio H. Rodriguez, 49, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born November 29, 1969 in Los Angeles, California the son of Joseph “Sony” & Susanna (Hernandez) Rodriguez. Jose Antonio lived in Los Angeles with his family until 1976 when they moved to Deerfield, Kansas.

Jose Antonio graduated from Deerfield High School in 1988 and from Garden City Community College in 1990. He lived in Illinois, Garden City, Wichita, and Big Spring, Tx. before moving back to the Deerfield and Garden City area in 2010.

Jose Antonio worked various jobs throughout his life, but primarily worked as a counselor for Area Mental Health. He enjoyed working on cars, reading, puzzles, watching sports, and was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan. On September 2, 2009, he married Monica Hernandez in Big Spring, Texas.

She survives. Other survivors include three children Roger Hernandez, Marcus Rodriguez, & Adrianna Rodriguez all of Garden City; his mother Susanna Rodriguez of Deerfield, Kansas; two brothers Francisco Rodriguez and Jonathon Rodriguez both of Deerfield, Kansas; and two sisters Augustina Leal of Dodge City, Kansas and Lorie Gottfried of Edmund, Oklahoma. Jose Antonio is preceded in death by his father Joseph “Sony” Rodriguez.

A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 also at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin with Fr. Peter Tran as Celebrant.

Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery. Friends may call from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Jose Antonio Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
