Obituary for Dorothy Bartlett Dorothy Bartlett died at 1:30 PM on December 26th, 2018. She passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her three children, Marc, Jon, and Joni Rutter. She is also survived by her five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

She was 85. Dorothy was born February 19, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas to Frank and Hazel Bartlett. She was one of five children with two sisters and two brothers.

She bravely broke out of her indoctrinating family and blazed a trail of her own. She moved to Garden City in 1962-ish with her then husband, Ed Rutter. That’s when she met Joyce Brungardt as a colleague who became her lifelong best friend.

She surrounded herself with her close friends and made anyone who walked into her home a part of her extended family. Just ask George Hopkins. You always knew where you stood with Dorothy, and you were always welcome to stand with her.

All her children have happy, successful careers, families, and lives, and credit her loving upbringing as the font. She was known for her quick wit and skilled card playing. She quickly achieved a status of LifeMaster as a duplicate bridge player in the American Contract Bridge Leagues and enjoyed playing bridge tournaments across the country.

When she wasn’t playing bridge, she loved to spend her days watching tennis with the TV loud. She had a rich professional career as a talented secretary, while she worked her way up as an established paralegal with the Owen Law Office. Her last great act was bequeathing her body to science.

And the rest is history, use the google. The world has lost a remarkable woman, and it doesn’t even know it. Those who knew her do.

We love you, mom. Rest in peace. The Family will hold a private Memorial Service at a later time.

Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.
