Obituary for Anna W. Merkel Anna W. Merkel, 107, of Annville, died Thursday, June 14, 2018 at The Lebanon Valley Home. She was the wife of the late Luther Merkel. Born in Lebanon on September 24, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Harvey E. and Edna (Swanger) Wolfe.

Anna graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1927, and then received her Bachelor’s Degree in Math from Lebanon Valley College with the class of 1931. She was a teacher at Suitland Junior High School in Maryland. Anna was a member of Palm Lutheran Church, and at 107 years old, she was the oldest living Alumna of Lebanon Valley College.

Surviving are her sons Rev. James L. Merkel, husband of Jacqueline, of Lexington, KY, and Rev. Dr. John D. Merkel, husband of Judy, of Annville, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Edward Wolfe. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11AM at Palm Lutheran Church, 11 W. Cherry Street, Palmyra, PA 17078. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will take place in Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Anna’s church in her memory. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Anna W. Merkel please visit our Sympathy Store.
