Annette (Burba) Janu, raised in Thompson and a resident of Madison Village, died peacefully surrounded by family on June 5, 2018. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, John (Laura) Janu and Caroline (Chris) Masoner, sister Karen (Carmelo) Burba, and brothers, Alan Burba, Joey Burba and Ron (Helen) Burba, and beloved Grandchildren Dylan, Odin and Noah. A graduate of Ledgemont High School, Annette was crowned Homecoming Queen and was a first runner up for the Geauga County Maple Queen.

Her love of music was ever-present throughout her life, once giving her the opportunity to sing “Leader of the Pack” with three friends on the local Cleveland TV program, The Gene Carol Show. Annette married in 1970 and had two children, Caroline and John. She was a very loving mother who spent her time fishing, camping, and enjoying the outdoors with her family.

Annette’s careers were as interesting as she, including cleaning tour buses which led to meeting Tom Petty, owning a restaurant, and working security at Metro Health Hospital, the job from which she retired. During her free time, she loved to cook, play bingo, and watch country western movies. She enjoyed volunteering at animal shelters and was known to welcome a stray or two into her home.

In 2016, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She fought a strong and courageous battle and in the end it was not the cancer that ended the battle, but rather her life-long struggle with heart disease. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her family and crossed peacefully into heaven while listening to John Wayne movies, family stories, and enjoying the oldies but goodies.

She is preceded in death by her father Joseph Burba, and mother Ina (Parker) Burba. She will be greatly missed. Calling hours are from 5-7 pm on June 8, 2018 at PottiFuneral Home in Madison, Ohio.

Funeral service to immediately follow. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Heart Association, www. heart.org.
