Arland U. Sparks, age 70, of Edwardville, Illinois died at 5:04 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at his home. Arland worked for Owens Illinois Glass from 1966 to 1982 and then the Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River for 27 years retiring in 2010. He was born April 25, 1948, in Carpenter, Illinois the son of the late Norman & Genevieve Sparks.

He married Carol Vieth on March 4, 1967, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Hamel. Besides his wife Carol he is survived by 1 son, Arland “Bud” Sparks, Jr. & wife Jennifer of Edwardsville; 1 daughter Amie Jo Wrischnik of Brighton; 5 grandchildren, Kendra Warren, Meranda Paige, Joseph Wrischnik, Kayla & Austin Sparks; and 3 sisters, Beverly Townzen & husband Willie of Edwardville, Barbara Harlow & husband Willie of Bethalto, and Norma Rea & husband Lindell of Edwardville. Arland was a member of the Wood River Masonic Lodge.

Arland loved wood working and spending time with his grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2019, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the funeral home with Rev.

Kevin Auten officiating. Interment will be at Quercus Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
