Arthur Eugene (Art) Heckenberg, 75, of Burlington, IA, surrounded by his family, passed on to his heavenly home at 9:53 a.m. on March 1, 2019 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. Art was born on June 7, 1943 in Burlington, IA to Albert and Madeline Mosena Heckenberg. On October 3, 1992, he married Joan (Turtle) Kelly from Keokuk, IA.

They lived in Keokuk and later moved to Burlington, IA. Art went to Burlington High School. He worked for JI Case for approximately 30 years.

After his retirement from Case, he worked for Burlington Community School District and later for SEIBUS. Art enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, going to casinos and was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. He loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy and enjoyed just being with them and going to any event they were involved in. Friends were very important to him. Survivors incude his wife, Joan; two sons Brian Granaman (Nancy) of North Liberty, Mark Heckenberg (Leslie) of Stockport, IA, daughter-in-law Stacy Heckenberg of Burlington; stepdaughter Diana Krueger (Dan), stepson Rob Kelly (Brandi) all from Keokuk, stepdaughter Kristy Kelly of Stronghurst, IL; ten grandchildren Ryan (Melissa) and Riley Granaman, Jory (Stefanie), Jansen, Jonah, Stoan and Adie Heckenberg, Kelly Peavy (Anthony), Kolton Krueger and Brittney Kelly; three great-grandchildren Olivia and Ethan Granaman, and Kasen Heckenberg, sister-in-law Rena Heckenberg, mother-in-law Helen Turtle, brother-in-law Richard Turtle, Scott Wood who was considered part of the family, Sharon’s sister and brothers Lois Shaw, Larry(Cheryl) and Ron (Lolita) Flaatten and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his previous wife (Sharon), son Mike (Hecky), his parents, three brothers Albert (Shirley), Edwin and Phillip (Darlene) Heckenberg, sister Marcella Skramstad (Donald), father-in law Harold Turtle, sister-in-law Pat Turtle, Sharon’s mother and father Beryl and Jerome Flaatten. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 pm with the family to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday March 9, 2019. Cremation will be accorded following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with American Cancer Society, Wounded Warriors, Special Olympics of lowa or St. Jude’s Hospital.
