Arthur’s Obituary Arthur Potzer passed away on Sunday, December 9, in Beresford, South Dakota at the age of 91. The funeral will be held at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in Beresford, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 15th. A grave-side memorial service will be held in Dubuque, Iowa at Linwood Cemetery this coming summer.

Arthur Potzer was born in Trenton, New Jersey on December 17, 1926, the son of George C. Potzer and Anastasia Sullivan. He had lived in Dubuque since 1961 and Beresford since 2018. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 for World War II.

He later served with the Marines 1st Division, Eighth Regiment from 1950 to 1952 and spent one year in Korea. After Korea he returned to Trenton and then to Chicago after meeting and marrying his wife Joyce. They later moved to Dubuque in 1961 to raise their four children.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Between World War II and Korea, he returned to Trenton to work with his father at the Trenton Standard Company as a mold maker. After Korea, he worked as a quality control engineer for Lennox China in Trenton and then moved to Chicago where he worked for the Kendall Company as a Quality Control Engineer.

After getting married and moving to Dubuque he became the Vice President of W.S. Sheppley Company as head of real estate sales and served on the board of directors. Thereafter, Art and Joyce became owners/brokers of Potzer Realty Co He was one of the first in the state of Iowa to receive the Graduate Realtors Institute designation.

He was an active member of Grandview Avenue United Methodist Church for 46 years and served on many church boards and as the head usher for 12 years. He was a life-time member of the Dubuque Morning Optimist Club where he was awarded Optimist of the Year and served as a club president. He enjoyed being with his family, following his favorite sports teams, fishing and taking family trips.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geneva Joyce Potzer, his two sons Greg and Robert (Christine) of Denver, CO; two daughters Pamela and Nancy (Pastor John) Mochel, all of Beresford, SD; seven grandchildren, Jonathan (and wife Taylor), Emily, Julia and Katherine, all of Beresford, SD and Pamela, Anastasia and Maria, all of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George and sister, Ruth.
