Obituary for Audrey J. Coleman (Skelley) Audrey (Skelley) Coleman 88, wife of the late Francis E. Coleman, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 6, 2018. Born on August 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James Patrick and Annie Veronica Ahern Skelley. One of eight children, Audrey grew up in a lively Irish family on Douglas Street in Hartford, Connecticut.

Audrey enjoyed sharing many fond memories of her childhood years with her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Anna Dwyer, Mary Elliot, and Margaret Bengston; her brothers Joseph, James, John and William. Audrey was a kind and loving mother to her children and leaves behind her devoted daughters and their spouses, Janice and Carmine Peluso of Higganum, Mary and Peter Stanwicks of Higganum, and her sons and their spouses, George and Ann (Riley) Coleman of Wethersfield, John and Brenda Coleman of Newington, and Michael Coleman of Newington.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Laurie Puglisi, in 1996. In addition to her seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Audrey leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, especially Cheryl French, with whom she spent many happy times, and her life-long friend Jean Galinsky, who was also at her bedside when she passed. Audrey attended St. Augustine Grammar School in Hartford and Mount Saint Joseph Academy in West Hartford.

In 1950 she graduated from Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. Extremely caring and kind to all of her patients, Audrey was an excellent nurse for many years. Though demanding, she took great joy in her profession.

After raising her six children, Audrey enjoyed travelling with her sisters and brothers. Proud of her Irish heritage, she especially cherished her trips to Ireland. The simple things in life pleased her immensely; the friendship of her long-time Knollwood Road neighbors, tending to her house and to her beautiful gardens, family dinners and watching her grandchildren grow into fine young men and women.

Audrey looked forward to her summer vacations at Point O’ Woods beach with family. She was fortunate in her last years to have been in the care of the attentive and compassionate staff at the Jefferson House in Newington. We would also like to thank Sister Lisette of St. Mary’s Parish for the spiritual support she showed Audrey.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 11 at 8:30 AM at the Farley- Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Audrey’s life at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Newington. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family requests, in Lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (curealz.org) 34 Washington Street Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481, or to the recreation department at Jefferson House in Newington, CT.
