Barbara Ann Bartholomew passed away on November 21, 2018 at her home in Kirkwood, NY. She was born on May 30, 1928 in Kunkletown, Pennsylvania to parents Adan and Beatrice Bohner. She is survived by her high school sweetheart, Richard E. Bartholomew to whom she was married for 70 years, her children, Ann (Bartholomew) Garcia, Lynn Bartholomew, Alan (Anne) Bartholomew and Dan (Terri) Bartholomew, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Roger, and grandson Christian. After high school, Barbara attended Cedar Crest College in the nursing program. While raising her 4 children, she sold Tupperware and Avon.

She grew up surrounded by music of all kinds. She played the piano and gave piano lessons to her children and others. She was especially interested in classical opera and was a patron of the Tri Cities Opera.

She was socially active and was involved in the Binghamton Girl Scouts, Girls Club, 4 H Club, State Hospital, Planned Parenthood, and Roberson. She worked with low income families and was also a member of the interagency board of Job Core. As an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, her dedication to the church included serving as an Elder, a Deacon, a member of Session, a Sunday school teacher and she was an instrumental force behind the startup and success of the Tuesday Community Meal.

In addition to her passion for the church mission, she spent the last 27 years deeply involved in Sister Cities International Program serving as Treasurer of the Binghamton Borovichi Sister City. At BBSC, she was very active in the student exchange program working with various high schools in the Triple Cities area. She and her husband Richard spent 2 months each spring in Borovichi, Russia, working with students and teachers in both elementary and high schools to build Russian-American relationships.

The many intimate friends and “family” in Russia treasure their memories of Barbara as a loving, giving, and warm-hearted person. A funeral is scheduled on December 1, 2018 at 12:00 noon, at United Presbyterian Church, 42 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY. Calling hours will be 10:00 am until noon at the church.

There will be a luncheon in the Library Lounge following the service. The Reverend Kimberly Chastian will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Barbara’s life.
