Barbara Gagich 84 of Swansea, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, Illinois, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at her home. Barbara was born on November 10, 1933 in Granite City, Illinois; the daughter of the late Mark “Ellis” and Thelma (Settle) Mathews. Barbara was a homemaker and a member of Dewey Avenue Methodist Church in Granite City.

In her free time, Barbara enjoyed her days of gardening, landscaping and had a special love for her pets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Barbara is survived by and will be missed by her sons; John (Nancy) Gagich, Tom (Julie) Gagich; daughters, Gayle Huskey, Karen Gagich; grandchildren, Bryan Gagich, Lauren Gagich, John (Shanan) Hesseldenz, Nicole Huskey (Michael Slinkard Jr.), Tony Gagich; great-grandchildren, Ryan (Taylor), Avery, Addie, Timothy, Matthew; devoted companion, Richard Jones and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John N.”Nick” Gagich; brother, Richard Mathews. In celebration of Barbara’s life, visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Granite City APA. To send flowers or a remembrance gift to the family of Barbara Gagich, please visit our Tribute Store.
