Fredrick “Fred” J. Smith, age 58, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on September 2, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Fred was born on August 3, 1960 in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late John F. Smith and Martha P. (Lape) Smith. Fred was a self-employed contractor for many years.

He enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his friends. Fred was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

Fred will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, George Raymond Smith. He is survived by his loving children, Jennifer McMillian of Edwardsville, IL and Jason Smith of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to eight grandchildren; dear sisters, Sharon Wright of Granite City, IL, Martha (Paul) Kruep of Granite City, IL and Linda McClain of Kansas City, MO; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, a memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, with Rev. Clint Wisdom officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www. irwinchapel.com.
