Richard Douglas “Uncle Humpy” Jones, 73, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:32 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. He was born July 21, 1945 in St. Louis, a son of the late Thomas and Opal Swarringim Jones. He married Cheryl R. (Haynes) Jones on April 18, 1979 in Houston, Texas and she survives.

He was self employed for many years and has worked at Luxfer Graphic Arts in Venice with many years of dedicated service. He proudly served his country with the United States Army and had served with the Ohio State Guard. He enjoyed his days of hunting, was known for his gregarious personality and was a man of integrity.

He would help anyone and give them the shirt off his back but would expect that person to work for his to repay this help. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by six children and spouses, Richard T. Jones of Houston, Texas, Sherry and Joey Randazzo of St. Charles, Missouri, Lori Brodeur of St. Charles, Missouri, Jason and Kelly Jones of Wentzville, Missouri, Stormy and Mark Udell of Rochester, Illinois and Garrett D. Jones of Granite City; many grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; other extended family and many great friends and co-workers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eunice, Dorothy and Barbara and four brothers, Tommy, Dewey, Donald and Walter.

In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 with Reverend Terry Sutton officiating and military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project and may be accepted at the funeral home.
