Howard Wayne Hankins, 72 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Granite Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Howard was born on April 16, 1946 in Hillsboro, Illinois; the son of the late Thomas Richard and Lydia Catherine (Fueland) Hankins. Howard was a forklift operator for 28 years at Cerro Flow in Sauget, Illinois and proudly served his country in the United States Army.

In his free time Howard enjoyed his days of fishing and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for the love of his family and all the special times they shared together. Howard is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Barbara Jean (Rainwater) Hankins, whom he married on May 20, 1968; daughter, Christine Hankins of Granite City, Illinois; brothers and sisters, Thomas Hankins, Millie Jett, Jenny Wood, Clow Jo Osborn; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy (Randy) Kendall and many other extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his sisters; Rubye Shipman, Elizabeth Dworsack, Mary Hassenbrock; brothers, Joseph Hankins, Leonard Hankins. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Howard’s life, services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Christopher Kendall and Pastor Rich Hill officiating.

Burial will follow with full military rites at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
