Margaret W. Thompson, nee, Widel, 91 of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Benton, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Granite Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Granite City. Margaret was born on December 29, 1926 in Bloomington, Illinois; daughter of the late James and Lillian (Friend) Widel. Margaret was a homemaker and mom who will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.

Margaret is survived by and will be missed by her children; Margie and Norville Baker of Granite City, IL, Joseph D. and Renee Stefanoff of Rowland Heights, CA, Samuel J. and Sherry Stefanoff of Mesa, AZ, Alan Wayne Thompson and Carol Simpson of Benton, KY; sister Caroline Presswood; grandchildren, Melissa (Tarasivich) and Paul Millard of Edwardsville, IL, Michael Tarasovich of Granite City, IL, Michael Stefanoff of Corona, CA, Mandy (Stefanoff) Saine of Corona, CA, Rachel Lynn (Stefanoff) Hahn-Johnson of Edwardsville, IL, Timothy James Stefanoff, of Mesa, AZ, Winston Kaine Thompson and Karol Kinnes Thompson of Benton, KY, Cali Brook Thompson of Benton, KY, Hannah Thompson of Benton, KY; great-grandchildren, Tess Millard, Lily Millard, Logan Tarasovich, Avery Tarasovich, Kayla Stefanoff, Alyssa Stefanoff, Maryssa Stefanoff, Andrea Saine, Chase Joseph, Zack Hahn, Jacob Hahn, Darrien Stefanoff, Loren Kinnes Thompson, Everett (Ret) Thompson; many nieces and nephews and her beloved church family, Missionary Baptist Church in Benton, KY. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; Albert Thompson; brothers, George Patrick Widel, Theodore Widel, William (Bill) Widel; sisters-in-law, Beulah (Boots) Widel, Shirley Widel, Beverly Widel; brother-in-law, Russell E. Presswood Sr. The family of Margaret is planning a memorial service at a later date. Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City is serving the family.
