Paul Scotty Scott , December 12, 1921 — November 05, 2018

Paul “Scotty” Scott, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. Paul was born in Sandy Hollow, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1921. He attended grade school at Sandy Hollow and Monarch and graduated from Union High School Rimersburg, PA in 1938.

He enjoyed a variety of work experiences while growing up in Pennsylvania: Worked under the National Youth Administration, building a new access road, and beautification of the Clarion Sewage Plant area; Delivered milk to the East Brady, Phillipston, and Sarah Furnace area and worked on the Scott’s dairy farm until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1941. Once he joined the US Army, his experiences continued to expand: he served in various capacities in the U.S. Army for 29 years, achieving the grades of Master Sergeant, Chief Warrant Officer 4, and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1969. – In WWII, he served with the First Army in the invasion of France and five campaigns on the European continent including the liberation of Paris, the Battle of the Bulge, and the occupation of Berlin.

– Served in Camp Shiloh, Canada, as part of a unit testing the effects of the Arctic climate on the operation of military equipment. – Served in Korea prior to the Korean War. – Served in Pakistan as an advisor to the Pakistani Army, receiving the Army Commendation Medal.

– Served four years in Germany as the Finance Officer for the 513th Military Intelligence Group, receiving the Army Commendation Medal. – Served in Viet Nam in 1968-69, as a Military Intelligence Specialist for which he received the Bronze Star Medal. His many hobbies included; house renovations; exercise; ballroom dancing (especially the Polka); and hiking in nature.

Paul is survived by two daughters: Patricia (Bob) Griffith of State College, PA; Barbara Scott (Brent Langley) of Edwardsville, IL; two grandchildren: Stephen Griffith of State College, PA; Jennifer (Mike) McKinney of Pittsburgh, PA; and two great-grandchildren: Aaron and Ava McKinney of Pittsburgh, PA. He is preceded in death by his two brothers and sisters-in-law (Frank (Eleanor) Scott and Dale (Jean) Scott) and his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Alice Freeman Scott (Dottie). In celebration of his life, Paul has generously chosen to donate his body to science; there will be no funeral or memorial service.
