Richard H. Briggs, age 79, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Fountain View Manor, Granite City, IL. Richard was born on October 6, 1938, in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Richard A. Briggs and Ruth M. (Range) Briggs. On October 24, 1970, Richard married Patricia A. (Kudelka) Cella the love of his life.

Richard retired from Granite City Steel after thirty years of dedicated service. He attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. Richard was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing many rounds of golf with his family and friends.

He also loved spending time on his farm in Grand Tower, IL, working on his favorite tractors, Allis Chalmers and just being outdoors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Richard loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother. Alan J. Briggs.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of forty-seven years, Patricia Briggs of Granite City, IL; loving children, Richard C. Briggs of Kingsley, MI, Julie A. (David) Flowers of Granite City, IL, Jill R. (Daniel) Farmer of Worden, IL and Michael R. (Donna) Cella of Franklin, TN; proud grandfather of Melony, Chase, Michael, Anna, Cody and Abby; proud great-grandfather to Connor and Brynn; dear sisters, Alyce (Randall) Sigite of Salem, MO and Nancy (Kenneth) Feigenbutz of Granite City, IL; extended family and many dear friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Heartland Hospice. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
