David Lee Richey, 71 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis. David was born on August 14, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri; the son of the late Lester and Mary (Davis) Richey. David worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and was a welding and maintenance supervisor for Ameren.

David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City and was active in the Granite City Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He served as a Shriner Provost Marshall and an associate member of Trooper Lodge # 41.

Most of all David loved to spend time with his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together. David is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Cathy (Vandever) Richey, whom he married on March 23, 1967; sons, Travis (Kathleen) Richey of Granite City, Dave (Donna) Richey of Glen Carbon; grandchildren, Marissa Richey, Madison Richey, Kelsey (Tim) Odum, Preston Richey, Landon Richey; great-granddaughter, Alaina Jo Odum; brother, Grant Richey; nephews, Mark (Karen) Richey and family, Todd (Sheila) Richey and family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.

In celebration of David’s life, services will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Perry Harris officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorial donations are suggested to Shriners Hospital.
