Mildred Greathouse, age 92, of Edwardsville, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Ruth’s House Memory Care, Edwardsville, IL. Mildred was born on August 19, 1926 in Brewer, MO, a daughter of the late Leo Andrew Hagan and Mary Verdella (Hager) Hagan. On July 31, 1948, Mildred Hagan married Walter “Shang” Greathouse, the love of her life, in St. Louis, MO.

Walter passed away on April 22, 1999. Mildred was a faithful member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL. She was also a member of Phi Tau Omega Philanthropic Sorority since 1951, Granite City Elkettes, St. Elizabeth’s Altar Society, St. Mary’s Ladies Guild, Sunset Hills Country Club Charter Member and a Rotarian.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Mildred loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Greathouse; and by her siblings, Lilburn Leo Hagan, Melvin Andrew Hagan, Mary Verona Monroe, Rita Delora Wood and Naomi Marie Hagan. Mildred is survived by her loving sons, Walter “Shang” (Jan) Greathouse Jr. of Granite City, IL, Brian Greathouse of Collinsville, IL and Scott (Terri) Greathouse of Edwardsville, IL; proud grandmother to Walter (Amanda) Greathouse III, Michael (Ashlei) Greathouse, Kelly (Eric) Barns, Danielle Greathouse and Shane Greathouse; proud great-grandmother to Walter Greathouse IV, Jackson Greathouse and Riley Barns; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL.

In celebration of her life, a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 North Lange Avenue, Maryville, IL, with Father Joseph Havrilka and Father Tom Liefer officiating. Mildred will be laid to rest next to Walter and Carol at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Phi Tau Omega Sorority.
