Betty Witmer Johnson Lake Resident Betty Witmer, 96, of Johnson Lake passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at her home. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Following, she will return to Fort Collins, Colorado for visitation on Sunday.

Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on Monday, February 18, 2019. In lieu of flowers, Betty suggested to get one for yourself and enjoy remembering the good times you shared with her. Condolences may be shared online at www.

osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Betty was born December 20, 1922 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Albert D. and Grace Schwalm.

She was united in marriage to Robert J. Witmer on June 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2004. Betty worked for Mountain Bell in Denver.

After only wanting to work for one year, Betty retired after 32 years, 2 months and 26 days. Following retirement they moved to Fort Collins, where Betty and Robert enjoyed crewing for a hot air balloon team. Deathly afraid of heights, Betty enjoyed 27 balloon rides.

She loved traveling and spent time in all 50 U.S. states and several European countries to enjoy time with family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her niece, Pam Gardner and her husband, Ken of Johnson Lake; grand-niece, Kimberly Johnson of Hildreth; along with many other relatives and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; nephew, Mark Bradford; and grand-nephew, Ryan Johnson.
