Obituary for BETTY WAARA (Brisson) Betty June Waara, 91, of Midway Drive, Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, October 9, 2018 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in the care of her loving family. Betty was born January 2, 1927 in Negaunee to Edward and Gladys (Jewell) Brisson and attended Negaunee Schools. Mrs. Waara was a wonderful and devoted homemaker, and was an excellent cook and baker.

She loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Betty was also an avid Tigers, Lions and Red Wings fan. Surviving are her two daughters: Kay (Ray) Ball and Lois Ellis, both of Negaunee; two sons: Ron (Diane) Waara of Negaunee and Darryl ‘Ponch’ (Mary) Waara of Hudson, MI; her sister, Carol Sillanpaa of Des Moines, IA; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Waara of Negaunee; 12 grandchildren: Wendy (Craig Robbert) Larson, Ron ‘Bucka’ (Dawn) Waara, Kevin and Kurt (Lori Reule) Ball, Chris (Lori) Waara, Heather (Riley) Burrus, Jonny (Barb), Mark (Sandy), Steven (Kristina) and Brad (Erika) Waara, Jeri Lynn (Brian Muladore) and Shanon (Jeremy Jackson) Ellis; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Lollie DeBeck and Ruth Brisson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ronald ‘Pete’ Waara in 2001; her son, Roger Waara in 2002; her sister, Donna Henthorne; two brothers, Bill and Bob Brisson; and granddaughter-in-law, Jodi Ball in 2013. Honoring Betty’s wishes, graveside services will be held in the Spring at the Negaunee Cemetery. Betty’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center and Koskey Funeral Home.
