Bennettsville, SC Betty Louise Herndon Chavis, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at her home. Born February 15, 1934 in Bennettsville, SC, Betty was the daughter of the late Edmond and Theodora Herndon. She was a faithful member of Victory World Outreach Center.

Mrs. Chavis enjoyed cooking and was known for her big Sunday dinners. Everyone who knew her called her “Nannie”. She also enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, and her little dog, Roxie.

Ms. Chavis was preceded in death by her parents listed above; sisters, Nancy Herndon Burrow, Lou Ellen Sanders, Wilma Smith, and Susan Herndon. She is survived by her husband Claude Chavis and her three children, J.R. Chavis (Donna) of Bennettsville, Lora Ann Little (Louis) of Bennettsville, and Carolyn Stubbs of Bennettsville; brothers, Billy Herndon of Bennettsville, Bobby Herndon of Cheraw, Edmond Herndon Jr. of Greensboro, and David Herndon (Judy) of Cheraw; sisters, Francis Hudson of Laurel Hill, Carrie Wilkes of Bennettsville, and Linda Jordan (Jesse) of Cheraw; Grandchildren, Anfernee Covington (Zahane), Terry Patterson (Ronnie), Krista Green (Michael), Allison Chapman (Brad), Brian Stubbs (Crystal), Joel Chavis (Jessica), Hannah Burks (Chris), and Candice Stubbs; and a host of great grandchildren. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Burroughs Funeral in Bennettsville.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 3, 2018, at 3:30 pm, at Victory World Outreach Center in Bennettsville, officiated by Rev. J.R. Chavis, with burial at Chavis cemetery.
