Mrs. Betty Whalen Claxton, 72, of Swainsboro passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Savannah Hospice House following an extended illness. Mrs. Claxton was born March 23, 1946 in McRae, Georgia, to the late James H. Whalen and Vera Wiley Whalen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Claxton; 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Claxton owned and operated Claxton Insurance Agency along with her late husband. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and watching Nicholas Sparks movies. Mrs. Claxton always looked forward to birthdays and Christmas.

She attended Union Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Melanie Sellers (Johnny) of Hazlehurst, Karen Underwood (David) of Atlanta, Laura Tompkins (Billy) of Helen, Ga. , Julie Love (Andy) of Bloomingdale, and Jill Usher (Tom) of Savannah; son, Norman Sandiford (Regina) of Lumber City, Ga.

; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral services will be at Union Primitive Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 with Elders Sam Bowen and Tommy Rountree officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Union Primitive Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Matthew Kirkland, Brylon Sandiford, Tom Usher, Andy Love, Cullin Brison, Will Hulette, David Snooks, Matt Crouch, Jonathan Underwood, and Mat Tompkins Condolences may be expressed at www. chapmanfhofswainsboro.com Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Betty Whalen Claxton, 72, of Swainsboro.
