Obituary for Billy G. Hammon Dateline: Godfrey Billy G. Hammon, 86, died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born June 24, 1932 in White Hall, IL, he was the son of Charles Edward and Goldie (Kite) Hammon. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Craig Air Force Base.

On December 24, 1987 he married the former Sherry Dawdy in Godfrey. She survives. Billy was a member of the VFW Post 1308 where he served as past president of the men’s auxiliary and was a member of the Ritual Team.

He was also a member of the Alton Wood River Sportsman’s Club, the Grafton American Legion, the Wood River Moose and the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. He was a reading tutor for the Alton School district and was an avid golfer, artist and amateur inventor. He loved spending time with his grandkids.

Billy retired from the production control department at McDonnell Douglas where he had worked in several countries. Along with his wife he is survived by a daughter, Denise Lamberton (Lloyd) of Evansville, IN, a son, Mark Hammon of Lake Charles, LA, a step-daughter, Michelle Ayres of Jerseyville and a step-son, Brian Russell (Sylvia) of Godfrey. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Andrea, Morgan, Logan, Ashley, Angie, Aaron, Emily, Cassandra and Nicole, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, one brother, Robert Hammon of Riverside, CA, one sister, Virginia Ratliff of Jacksonville, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin and 10 siblings. Friends are invited to gather at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the VFW Post 1308 for a time of fellowship followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Chaplain Jeff Gray will officiate. Private burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
