OBITUARY Billy Ray Berry October 1, 1929 – July 16, 2018 Billy Ray Berry, age 88, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, July 16 2018, at his residence. Born October 1, 1929 in Valdese NC, he was the son of the late William Howard Berry and Jennie Mae Small Berry. Billy was an active member of The Chapel in Hickory, NC, where he served as a deacon, as the administrator of the Sunday School program, and in numerous other leadership capacities.

He had retired from Burke Oil Company, where he had worked for over 40 years and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Billy enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandson and great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Berry Denton, and an infant sister.

Billy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Belva Hart Berry; son, Timothy Scott Berry of Granite Falls, NC; grandson, Jonathon Scott Berry and wife Jennifer, of Granite Falls, NC; great-granddaughters, Makayla Berry and Brooklynn Berry; and sister, Phyllis Berry Buchanan of Valdese, NC. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory, with Rev. Dr. Dale Watts and Rev.

Dean Hart officiating. A graveside service with flag presentation by the US Navy Honor Guard will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
