Billy Wayne Hughes February 22, 1936 – January 30, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Billy Wayne Hughes, 82, Hampton passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born February 22, 1936 in Hampton. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Hampton High School where he played on the basketball & football teams.

He loved all sports and was an avid Tennessee Vols Fan. Bill served in the United States Navy. He was a construction worker for Coolidge Johnson Contractor for 28 years.

Through the years he had played with several Blue Grass Bands. He was a member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother: Minerva Lucille Hughes.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Shelby Simerly Hughes. One Daughter: Patricia “Susie” Hughes Breeden & husband Ronnie, Jonesborough. Three special cousins: Opal, Richard & Connie.

Five Brothers-in-law and One sister-in-law. Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating.

Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:20 p.m. Monday. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.
