Buman Harold Hitt Sr. quietly passed away on Tuesday, January 15th, surrounded by friends and family after 94 years of a well-lived life. Visitation will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, GA on Thursday, January 17th from 4-7pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA on Friday, January 18th, at 2pm.

Buman was born in Tate, GA to Alba and Benjamin Hitt. He served our country bravely as part of the Army Air Corps during World War II. His act of service was rewarded greatly as he met the love of his life, Louise LaGrange, in Fairbanks, Alaska during his deployment.

They returned to Marietta, GA to build their life together. Hard work and deep love wove through Buman’s life as a thread from beginning to end. Through his careers as a home builder, food services provider, and finally at the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department, Buman made friends everywhere he went.

Of all the connections in his life, one of the deepest was with his home church, St. Andrew United Methodist. Buman and Louise joined the church in 1963 and remained faithful members, Buman attending services up until days before his passing. Known for his green thumb, ever-ready sense of humor, and unbeatable cooking, Buman will be missed by many.

Buman is now reunited with his lifelong love, Louise, his parents, two siblings, and many friends who were like family. Those carrying on his legacy are: his children, Dr. Ralph Hitt, Crawford Hitt, Sheila Hitt (daughter-in-law), Harold Hitt, and David Hitt; his grandchildren, Ben Hitt, Jason Hitt, Andrew Hitt, Elizabeth Hitt, Travis Hitt, Sarah Lee, and Handel Estivene; his great-grandchildren, Austin Hitt, Para Hitt, and Haley Hitt; his half-brother Jerry Vickers; and the many friends who made his life so rich. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the charity of your choice.
