Burton’s Obituary “Captain” Burton Paul Dauzat – “God Called Another Angel Home” A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Burton Paul Dauzat on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, V.G. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Melancon Funeral Home on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. and resume on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Burton Paul Dauzat, age 90, of Bunkie, known by many as “Captain”, due to his many years of service with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Department, passed from this life to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Lexington House in Alexandria. Captain Dauzat was well-known as a “side-kick” in the justice system during the Potch Didier era and then the Bill Belt era. Although law enforcement was his livelihood, he had already served his country by joining the US Navy and being stationed on the USS Rogers.
A man of many hobbies throughout the years included his love and dedication to raising birds. His specialty was parakeets, which many in Bunkie could tell you stories about his birds. As the years passed, he added Diamond-back doves and “Owl finches”.
His other hobbies included motorcycles, guitars, woodworking, raising and breeding rat terrier dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Dauzat, Sr.; his mother, Marie Alida Jeansonne Dauzat Fontenot; his step-father, Ferdie Fontenot, Sr.; brother, Ellis Joseph Dauzat, Jr. and Herman Joseph Dauzat. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Faye Dauzat of Alexandria; grandson, Derek Paul Eaves of Forest Hill; three granddaughters, Donna Guillory (Jerry) of Thibodaux, Alisha Pearson (Randle) and Sandy Grabowski of Alexandria; eleven great grandchildren, Ashleigh Eaves, Karli Dauzat (Justin), Alexis Pearson, Emily Grabowski, Tyler Adams, Bradley Gaspard, Justin Guillory, Jacob Guillory, John Michael Guillory, Dillan Pearson and Nick Grabowski; three great great grandchildren, Bentley Dauzat, Colton Dauzat and Cameron Grabowski; one sister, Lela Mae Bordelon of Alexandria; two brothers, Elster Dauzay of Leesville and Ferdie Fontenot, Jr. of Turkey Creek and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honored to be Captain Dauzat’t pallbearers are his great grandsons, Tyler, Bradley, Justin, Jacob, John Michael, Dillan and Nick. A “Special Thanks” to the staff of Lexington House and Guardian Hospice, both of Alexandria,for their loving, caring and sincere care of my dad during his last days – Linda Dauzat.
