Capt Scott Adkison, May 09, 1963 — March 16, 2019

Capt. Scott’s Obituary Capt. Scott Adkison (“Augustus Scott Adkison”), age 55, of Panama City, FL, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 16, 2019.

Scott was born on May 9, 1963 in Morris, NJ. He was a young boy when his family moved to Marianna, FL where his mother, Shirley F. Adkison, and father, Capt. Augustus (“Gus”) Max Adkison, assumed teaching positions at Chipola Junior College.

Scott’s love of the sea was genetic. He spent many years fishing with his father out of Capt. Anderson’s Marina in Panama City before he received his own Captain’s license.

Between the father and son, they spent 50 years fishing out of Capt. Anderson’s, both for fun and as a way to make a living doing what they both loved. Scott’s family have many happy memories of coming in from fishing trips and cooking up fresh fried fish and hush puppies right on the dock after a successful day at sea.

However, any day spent on the waters of the Gulf or in the woods hunting was a great day for Scott. If he was outside, he was happy. Scott was preceded in death by his mother and father and 2 brothers-in-law, Marc Lockhart and David Burke (also avid fishermen).

Left to grieve his passing are his loving wife of 15 years, Lea Ann, and his beautiful daughter, Lindsay, 12. Scott is also survived by his brother, Lee Adkison (and wife Joan) of Altamonte Springs, FL, and his 3 sisters, Brenda Lockhart of Fishers, IN, Leslie Boyle (and husband Charlie) of Pt. Charlotte, FL, Pamela Burke, of Asheville, NC, and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

Despite the fact that he was younger than his 3 sisters, at 6’6” tall, he was always their “big” brother. Scott was fortunate to love his work, and he often spent his free time telling tall tales and sharing life’s challenges with the many other boat captains and friends he knew. He had a wicked sense of humor and a big heart.

Scott’s family welcomes anyone who wants to stop by for a visitation being held on Saturday, March 23rd from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Scott’s family will be celebrating his life where he lived it – at sea. On Sunday, March 24th, the family will leave Capt.

Anderson’s Marina at 5:30 pm and head to the whistle buoy, a special place to Scott where he wanted his ashes scattered. Anyone who wants to join in celebrating Scott’s life is invited to follow along and meet at the whistle buoy. He was loved and will be missed.
