Carl’s Obituary Carl Ray Shaffer, 85, of Charles Town, West Virginia, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, West Virginia. Mr. Shaffer was born January 27, 1934 in Cascade, West Virginia, son of the late Roy John Shaffer and Helen McCrobie Shaffer. He served in the U.S. Navy during Korea and Vietnam and retired after 20 years of service.

He married Betty Marie Gamble Shaffer on May 19, 1956 in Oakland, Maryland. Surviving with his wife of 62 years, are a daughter, Robin Miller and her husband, Reginald, of Hedgesville, WV; grandchildren, Christina Barker, Amy Barker, Timothy Barker, all of Leesburg, VA, Nicholas Shaffer of Connecticut, Harry Grimm III and his wife, Johnna, of Inwood, WV, Ashley Snight and her husband, Michael, of Cambridge, MA, and Cassandra Graham of North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren. His daughter, Karen Sue Shaffer, son Carl Ray Shaffer II, five brothers, and a sister, all preceded him in death.
