Stephen’s Obituary Stephen Donald Lilly (32) of Berryville, VA, died tragically in a motorcycle accident on May 26, 2019 in Clarke County. Stephen was born on August 26, 1986 in Winchester to Robert Howard Lilly and Mary Keith Hinshelwood Lilly. He grew up in Clarke County, the love of which drew him back after attending Old Dominion University and living in the Outer Banks.

He worked as Chief Plant Operator for the Town of Berryville where he was responsible for safe drinking water and water treatment. Stephen was also a member of the Clarke County Ruritans and wore his green hat proudly. Stephen had a keen mind and was not afraid to try anything.

Seemingly, after he tried something (anything) once, he was an expert. Stephen was bright, creative, and fearless. Stephen is survived by his mother, Mary Keith Hinshelwood Lilly of Southern Shores, NC and his brother, John Robert Lilly of Raleigh, NC.

His father, Robert H. Lilly preceded Stephen in death in 2010. He is also survived by many Uncles & Aunts: James Lilly of Winchester, VA and wife Ginny; cousins Ben, Emma, Sam and Alex and beloved nephew, Zay. Lyn Lilly Rivero of Sandy Utah, husband Victor, cousins Callie and Claire; Joan Bond McMinn of Stumpy Point, NC, husband Wayne, Laura C. Hinshelwood of Germantown, TN and cousins Scott and Donna; and nieces Caroline, Ashlyn, Hailey; nephews Drew & Kevin.

Lucien Hinshelwood McKinney of Ruther Glen, VA and husband Tom; Geoffrey C. Hinshelwood of Suffolk, wife Cheri and cousins Abby and Owen. He is also survived by Cousins Chip Heppenstall and Scott Heppenstall. Two uncles, William C. Heppenstall of Southern Pines, NC and Donald H. Hinshelwood of Germantown, TN preceded Stephen in death.

He is also survived by his beloved Clarke County parents, Chuck and Bonnie Welsh of Bluemont, VA. A Celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the celebration of his life at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brother John Lilly, James (Jed) Lilly, Geoff Hinshelwood, Sam Lilly, Ben Lilly, Chuck Welsh, Justin Frasier, Willis Shifflett, and Thomas Heflin Memorial contributions in Stephen’s memory may be made to Clarke County Ruritans, PO Box 1167, Berryville, VA 22611.
