Obituary of Carol Conroy Mrs. Carol Ann Conroy of Port Jervis, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Place in Port Jervis. She was 84. She was born October 23, 1934 in Port Jervis, NY the daughter of the late Edward Matthew Fahey and the late Mary Elizabeth Cullinan Fahey.
Carol married Francis Martin “Hank” Conroy 58 years ago on April 23, 1960 in St. Mary’s RC Church, Port Jervis, NY. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the O.R. at St. Francis Hospital, Port Jervis, NY and was also a Port Jervis School Nurse for over 20 years. Carol was a proud member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church where she taught CCD Religion Class where she was very proud to teach many children preparing to make their first communion.
She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Madonna No. 114, Port Jervis. She was also Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader’s Assistant.
A family statement read: Carol was a loving wife, mom, grandmother “Mimi”, great grandmother, aunt, sister in law, god mother and friend to many. She loved babysitting her grandchildren when they were small, many trips to Disney, watching her grandchildren race at Oakland Valley Race Park, and Hamlin Speedway and when she was able never missed a sporting or school event of theirs. She was always their biggest fan!
She looked forward every year to the Fireman’s Day Parade and the various parties with the Ball Street Gang. She was an avid NY Yankee, NY Giants, and Notre Dame fan and enjoyed watching her teams. Carol also shared a love of watching Dancing with the Stars with her son Stephen.
The last two years of her life she resided at St Joseph’s Place and received wonderful care from the nurses, CNAs, doctors, and activity staff. They were wonderful to her and she could not express how much she enjoyed it there and it renewed her love of Bingo and doing crafts. Surviving are: Her loving husband of 58 years, Francis Martin “Hank” Conroy At Home Daughter: Lisa VanInwegen and her husband, William Sparrowbush, NY Brother-in-law: Floyd Morley and his wife, Evelyn Trumbull, CT 4 Grandchildren: Lara VanInwegen and her companion, Michael Berg; William “Billy” VanInwegen; Emily VanInwegen and her companion, Matthew Tanner and Beth Thomas and her husband, Pua Kalahiki-Anthony 2 Great Grandchildren: Clinton Berg & Riley Berg Also several loving nieces and nephews Sister-in-law: Dorthy “Dottie” Conroy Glenville, NY Brother-in-law: Joseph Conroy Lancaster, PA Sister-in-law: Linda Conroy Lancaster, PA Carol was predeceased by her son, Stephen Michael Conroy and her siblings Jeanne Morley, Margaret Fahey, Thomas Fahey and Richard Fahey.
She was also predeceased by her brothers-in-law John “Jack” Conroy and William “Bill” Cleary and Sisters-in-law: Patricia Cleary and Katherine Fahey A visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 with a 9:15am prayer at the funeral home follow by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 46 Ball Street, Port Jervis. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY.
