Catherine “Cathy” G. Armburger, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018. Cathy was born in Meadville, on February 7, 1950, a daughter of Mary Lou (Miller) and the late Donald R. Armburger. She was 68 years old.

She was a 1968 graduate of Cochranton High School and went on to attend Pittsburgh University in Titusville and later Pittsburgh University in Pittsburgh. After college, Cathy took a job cooking for Frankie Gustine’s in Oakland; that began her career as a French chef. She obtained an apprenticeship and traveled to France and throughout Europe to complete her apprenticeship and became a five star French chef. For many years she was head chef for La Normandy and La Bistro restaurants on 5th Avenue in Pittsburgh, later owning her own restaurant, The Alp Horn, in Sewickley.

While in Pittsburgh she cooked for and entertained many of Pittsburgh’s celebrities including members of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. She then moved on to being head chef for the Sheraton Inn in Martinsburg, WV. It was in Martinsburg that she was stricken with an untimely illness and was later moved to the now AristaCare in Meadville, where she resided since 1996.

Cathy passed away from a complication of a recent illness and is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Armburger of Wesbury, Meadville, her brother Steven Armburger and his wife Donna of Black Ash, Guys Mills, two nephews Eric L. Armburger of Cochranton, Kelley J. Armburger and his wife Becky of Shelby, NC. She is further survived by aunts and many cousins. The family would like to give special thanks to UPMC Hamot ICU Staff, Meadville Medical Center ICU staff, ArisaCare of Park Avenue in Meadville as well as Hospice of Crawford County.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 29034 State Hwy. 27, Guys Mills, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 with Pastor Alice McClymonds officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 29034 State Hwy. 27, Guys Mills, PA 16327.

Cathy will be laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Randolph Twp. Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC.
