Cecil’s Obituary MARION, VA Cecil Holmes Carter age 88 passed away on Thursday May 16, 2019 at his home in Marion, VA. Cecil was born in Rich Valley, VA to the late Rush & Myrtle Oakes Carter. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Howard Carter and Clifton Carter; sister Agnes Rightmyer; and nephew Bobby Rightmyer.

Cecil retired from Harwood Manufacturing in Marion, VA with 45 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a dedicated lifetime member for over 50 years at the Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.

There, he served as past Post Commander, and other various positions. He was passionate about his service to the post and the work they helped did throughout the community. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lena Carter of Marion; special niece who he raised as his own Kathy Lewis & fiancé Billy; special great nephew Keith Finney & fiancé Ali, all of Marion; several nieces, nephews, other loving family, and all the members of the Francis V.F.W. Post 4667 and Mayor David Helms.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday May 19, 2019 from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Mike Sage and Pastor Paul Shallenburg officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
