Obituary for Charlene Hollingsworth McClung Charlene Hollingsworth McClung of Warrior, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 1, in her home, surrounded by her family, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wilton Lee McClung, Sr., her parents, Ector Thomas Hollingsworth and Ethel Kelly Hollingsworth, and her brothers, Billy and Eugene Hollingsworth. She is survived by her five children, Denise Barry (Shane), Lee McClung (Donna), Jan Banks (Terry), Amy Barrett (Scott), and Beth Austin (Keith); 14 grandchildren, Erin Barry Alter, Kate Barry, Drew McClung, Mallory McClung, Reid McClung, Taylor Banks, Ellie Banks, Michael Banks, Owen Barrett, Nora Barrett, Will Austin, Pierce Austin, Thomas Austin, and Mary Frances Austin; two great-grandchildren, Addie Alter and Ava Alter; and three sisters, Willodean Hubbert, Lurene Henderson, and Glenda Jones.

Charlene was a devoted Christian and member for many years of Westwood Church of Christ. When she died, she had been a member of North Gardendale Church of Christ for many years. Charlene lovingly cared for her family and friends and was known for her kind and gentle spirit.

She had many passions and creative talents and seemingly boundless energy. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word—creating delicious meals for her family and friends, designing and sewing clothing and home decorations, hand making quilts, wall hangings, and art for her home, and painstakingly refurbishing furniture and other objects. She worked side-by-side with her husband to carve out a homesite and to design a home that was everywhere clearly Charlene’s.

She was the beloved center of her large family and will be missed beyond words. Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with funeral service following at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the New Gardendale Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
