OBITUARY Wanda S. Abney February 27, 1937 – November 5, 2018 Wanda Abney, a longtime resident of Gardendale, AL passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the age of 81. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, and Nana who loved nothing more than spending time with her family. Wanda was a true “Southern Lady” who always saw the best in everyone she met.

Her smile could brighten anyone’s day when she walked into a room. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, shopping every chance she got, and always had the time to help her community and the people in it. Wanda was a member of Gardendale’s First Baptist Church and the Goodwill Sunday School class.

She retired from the Federal Courts, where she worked for many years, and then sold real estate until five years ago. She loved her Lord, always read her Bible, and studied her devotionals every day. She also instituted the North Jefferson “Relay for Life” for the American Cancer Society in honor of her son, Michael Lloyd Abney, by whom she was preceded in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Arthur and Virgie Gray; and her siblings, Inell Holcutt, Clinton Gray, D.C. Grey, Chilton Gray, Carter Gray, Cleophas Gray, and Merla Gray. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd Abney; her daughter, Denise Mann (Oscar); grandchildren, Allison Abney, Lindsey Mann-Badyrka (Jeff), Brent Abney (Tara), her “Bonus” grandchildren, Shane Mann and Jeff Mann (Michele); great grandchildren, Alyna Abney, Samson Abney; “Bonus” great grandchildren, Mary Catherine Mann, Maggie Mann, Nate Mann, and Nolan Mann. Services will be held on Thursday, November 8th at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior to service time.

Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
