Obituary for Charles David Tate RICHMOND, Ind. – Charles David Tate, age 70, of Richmond, Indiana, died Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Reid Health. Charles was born February 14, 1948, in Appalachia, Virginia, to Clyde and Charlene Webb Tate.

He worked as a security guard until he found his forever job at Johns Manville, where he retired in 1991 leaving behind many friends. Charles was an avid history buff and huge Elvis fan, who loved music as he loved life, and enjoyed playing his guitar with his family and friends. He was known for his generosity in life and helped many families along the way.

His humble beginnings in the Appalachian Mountains taught him that children and family are the most important things in life and he was adored by all children. Charles was a true friend and a blessing to many. He had made peace with the Lord and openly talked of his faith and gave God the glory throughout his long battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his beautiful, redheaded wife of 53 years, Christina Tate from Harlan, Kentucky. Nothing compared to the love Charles held for her, as she was a Hatfield and he was a McCoy. Only the opposite sides of Black Mountain could create and bless such a love.

He also leaves behind his daughter, Holly Lynn (Joseph Michael) Wyatt, who he loved with all his heart and who blessed him with four beautiful grandchildren, Duran David (Shawna) Tate, Teana Grace Toney, Trayn Michael Charles, and Julia Michelle “Julie” Wyatt; many cousins; special friend, Brian K. Love and special cousin, Johnny (Cora) Tate, who he spent much time with from junkyards to books and were more like his brothers; extended family members; and many friends, including his fur babies and special puppy, Tosha. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Theron Lee Toney; parents; Grannybear, Dora Mae Tate, who raised him from the age of 12 until he became a man; sisters, Sandra Tate and Shirley Tate Pickle; and brothers, Curtis Tate and Junior Tate. There will be a private memorial service for Charles David Tate held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, Wayne County Unit, 5635 West 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
