Charles Fritz Mangold, Sr., 81, of North Port, FL, formerly of Old Greenwich, CT, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Charlie served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Sperry Rand as a Human Res Manager.

Charlie loved fishing, playing jazz piano and spending time with his family. His ability to listen to and counsel folks led to his appointment as Chaplain of Post 312 AMVETS of North Port. His community outreach extended to veterans in the Charlotte Correctional Institution in Punta Gorda, FL where his understanding nature to be real with people flourished.

In 2016, “Charlie Chaplain” was chosen out of 18,000 Florida AMVETS, for outstanding dedication to AMVETS, and was awarded the White Clover, as Florida’s AMVET of the year. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan Kidner Mangold; daughter, Linda Joan Mangold and her children Patrick and Emily Mounce of Venice, FL; son, Charles F. Mangold, Jr. and his children, Lucas and Josie Mangold of Old Greenwich, CT; and brother-in-law, Charles E. Kidner, Jr. of Middlebury, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Post 312 AMVETS of North Port, Venice Theatre or Tidewell Hospice of Venice.
