Charles H Darkes, May 27, 1932 — October 16, 2018

Obituary for Charles H. Darkes Charles Darkes was freed of his earthly body on October 16, 2018, after 86 years. Charlie was the husband of the late Shirley Boyer Darkes. He leaves behind three children: Scott Darkes (Ann) of Lebanon, Brian Darkes (Anna) of Orlando, FL and Dawn Darkes of Lebanon; and a beloved friend, Anna Marie Lauer of Annville.

Charlie was one of 16 children born to Harry and Annie Leah Houtz Darkes. Among the siblings, he is survived by two sisters, Mildred Kleinfelter of Lebanon and Annabelle Kreuzer of Sumter, SC, and a brother Curtis Darkes (Nevonne) of Trenton, NJ. In addition to an abundance of nieces and nephews, Charlie lives on in his four grandchildren: Brooke Darkes; Caleb, Cameron and Charley Leah Darkes-Burkey; and great-granddaughter Tayleigh Darkes.

Charlie was a graduate of Fredericksburg High School and a Korean Conflict veteran. He was employed by United Associated Grocers, Robesonia and retired from Dutch Valley Foods, Myerstown. He was a member of the South Lebanon Lion’s Club, TPA Post E, and St. Mark’s UCC, where he participated in the HIM Singers and the Pine Acres Crew.

Charlie enjoyed hunting, gardening, the outdoors and starting each day early. He remained a farm boy at heart. Please join the family at a memorial service in Charlie’s honor on Saturday, October 27 at St. Mark’s UCC in Lebanon with a visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m., followed by light refreshments and socializing in the narthex.

Charlie’s body will be cremated with his remains inurned at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a time convenient to the family.
