CHARLES’ Obituary CHARLES L. COKER, SR. Mr. Charles L. Coker, Sr., 92, of Vero Beach died May 28, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic – Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach. C.L. was born in Vero Beach and has been a life-long resident.

He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School, Class of 1944. C.L. was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II, June 1944 – 1946 as Seaman 1st Class, Amphibian Forces. He had long career in Federal and State service spanning 37 years.

C.L. retired in 1986 as Postmaster of the Wabasso Post Office after 30 years of service in the United States Postal Service. He was a member of New Hope Ministries, Winter Beach, since 1998. C.L. was a former member of the Treasure Coast Cathedral, Assembly of God, Vero Beach where served their board of deacons for 39 1/2 years.

He served his churches as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher as well as the church lawn boy. He loved the prison ministry. C.L. was an avid cast net fisherman, Boy Scout Leader and baseball coach.

He held three jobs at once to provide for his family; Post Office, a Pest Control and lawn Business and a rubber stamp business. He also was a Realtor. C.L. always made sure his wife, Onalee made it back to New York to visit her family.

He traveled extensively to places like Israel, China, Paraguay, Peru, Alaska and much of the United States and Canada. He loved his hometown of Winter Beach most of all and enjoyed showing it and the surrounding areas to everyone. He enjoyed spending time with old classmates and attending gatherings.

He loved to give his grand and great grandchildren a “Huggin and Shakin”. C.L. was a great friend and mentor to many. Survivors include son Charles L. Coker, Jr. of Deland, FL; daughters, Rebecca Duymich of Arkport, NY, Margaret Pitcock of Valrico, FL and Pamela Coker of Vero Beach; 5 grandchildren, Jason and Jackie Coker, Kristen and Steven Folts, Bryan and Lori Coker, Joni and Robert Comer and Donni Rae and Aaron Chandler; 8 great-grandchildren, Kyric, Skylar, Emma, Madison, Blake, Kaelyn, Charley and Charles Lee “C.L.”.

C.L. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Onalee Grace Rigby Coker and brother Harry Leslie Coker. Memorial contributions may be made to Haiti’s Angels, C/O Hew Hope Ministries 4425 71st Street, Vero Beach, FL 32967 in memory of Charles L. Coker, Sr. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 at New Hope Ministries, Winter Beach with Rev.

Nancy Hart officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Bach.
