Obituary for Charles Vernon Malone Charles Vernon Malone, 97, of New Castle passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at Forest Ridge Senior Living. He was born June 23, 1920 in Mulkeytown, IL to the late Hila and Emily (Dempsey) Malone. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.

A graduate of Christopher Illinois High School, he attended Southern Illinois University and Ball State University, where he received his Masters Degree. Charles retired from Muncie Community School Corp. in 1981 where he taught English for 18 years.

He was a photographer for Olan Mills and worked for Modernfold Corp. in New Castle for several years. Charles was a long time member of First Baptist Church and was a 76 year member of the Sesser Goode Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, writing and volunteered at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Phil) Roberts of New Castle; two sons, Stephen (Debbie) Malone of New Castle, and Sean Malone of Carmel; grandchildren, Shayne (Vickie) Roberts of Phillips, WI, Shannon (Lisa) Roberts of Bloomington, IN, Brant (Shelia) Malone of New Castle, Emily Malone of Phoenix, AZ and Patrick Malone of Kingman, AZ; great grandchildren, Caitlin, Thomas and Mitchell Roberts all of Phillips, WI, Sam, Lily, and Luke Roberts all of Bloomington, IN, Parker Malone of New Castle, Alec, Seth, and Marlie Mae Seals all of Phoenix, AZ, Andrew and Isaac Malone of Kingman, AZ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 ½ years, Hilda Mae Malone; two brothers, Wallace Malone and Jack Dempsey Malone; a sister, Audrey Hart; a half-brother, Si Malone and a daughter, Sheila Lynn in 1947.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Ken Durham officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.

Visitation will be from 4 – 7p.m. Monday, June 18th at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by contingents of the U.S. Army, the American Legion and the VFW. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
