Charles W. Baker, Jr., age 93, of Tonawanda, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Beechwood Continuing Care under Hospice Care. Born July 20, 1925 in Barnesville, Ohio, Charles was a proud WWII Marine Corps Veteran whose unit raised the flag at Iwo Jima and received a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat. He was a hard worker all his life, working at Spaulding Fibre, Ken-Ton Schools, and Norm’s Restaurant.

Charles was a member and deacon of Salem United Church of Christ and a member of the American Legion, Stephen Sikora Post. He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred (nee Gross) Baker; devoted father of Karen Kenney; cherished grandfather of Sean and Jonathan Kenney; son of the late Charles Baker and Clara DesRosiers; brother of Shirley (Edward) Bothwell, Fay (late Daniel) Misner, Nancy (late Michael) Nagey, Dennis (Kathryn) DesRosiers, and the late Raymond F. Baker and Robert L. Baker. Also surviving are his goddaughter, Jill DesRosiers, and many nieces and nephews.

Private services were held by the family, followed by interment at Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to Hospice Buffalo, PO Box 590, Buffalo, NY 14240, or Salem Church, 114 Morgan Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family. Special thank you to Beechwood for such wonderful care.
