OBITUARY Charlie Stephens March 4, 1931 – November 18, 2018 Charles (Charlie) William Stephens passed away early Sunday morning, November 18, 2018 at the age of 87. He was surrounded by family, love, and gratitude. He was an adoring husband of 55 years to Anne Drago Stephens and a loving father to Erin Klingenfus (Chris), Todd Stephens (D’Ann), Colleen Stephens & Loren Stephens.

He took great pride in his grandchildren Jordan, Kyle and Katie Stephens, and he will be missed by his dog, Olive, who attentively waited under his chair at mealtime. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Loney Stephens, Sr. and Cornelia Driscoll Stephens, his brother Eddie and his sister June. A native New Orleanian, Charlie was raised in Gentilly, lived many years in Algiers, and relocated to Mandeville in 2015.

He graduated from Warren Easton High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked for Delta Steamship Lines until the company moved its headquarters to Mobile, AL. He then worked as a salesman for Beacon Supply Company until the age of 72.

He thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and helping his customers. His lawn was always thick and green, his shrubs were neatly clipped, and the pool was crystal clear. He was proud of his ability to outperform people half his age on the elliptical trainer at the fitness center.

He could quote the latest weather forecast for the coming week and his jokes were legendary, especially to himself. He was a man of deep faith, and he was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Orleans for as long as he was able. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at St. John Lutheran Church, 3937 Canal Street, New Orleans LA on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be in the church beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to St. John Lutheran Church.
