Clyde A. Chapman, 78, of Bristol, VA passed away, Wednesday, February 27, 2019. He was born in Bristol on August 11, 1940. He was preceded in death by mother, Naomi Chapman; father, Gordon Chapman; brothers, Charles Chapman, Douglas Chapman, and James Chapman; and sisters, Betty Lewis, Buloxi Whitaker, Rita Rosenbaum, and Peggy Chapman.

Clyde was a veteran of the United States Marines and Tennessee National Guard. He was a long time employee of Kern’s Bakery and Owner of Chapman Auto Trim. He attended Key Street Pentecostal Church, Bristol, VA.

After retirement he was a newspaper carrier for the Bristol Herald Courier for 20 years. As an avid golfer he received many accolades over the years. For many, many years he enjoyed Wednesday and Sunday golf at Holston Valley Golf Course and East Hill Golf Course.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Chapman; son, Ray Chapman and wife Cherie Chapman of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Rhonda Slagle and husband Tony Slagle of Bristol,VA; grandchildren, Sarah Hutchinson (Blaine), Heather Smith (Austin), Ben Slagle (Samantha), Christy Mcgriff (Jim), Courtney Slagle (Brady), Corrie Slagle, Casey Sheffield (Mason), and TJ Slagle (Valerie); great grand children, Locklyn, Cheyenne, Ashlyn, Laine, Austin, Turner, Tay, Beckett, Tylee, Jordan, Olivia, and Maysun; great great grandson, Caden; brother, Thurman Chapman (Dixie); sisters, Shirley Rosenbaum (William) and Patsy Gregg (Isaac); and several nieces and nephews. The family would like send special thanks to the staff of Abingdon Health and Rehab for caring for Clyde. Per Clyde’s request, there will be no viewing or regular service, only a small private service for family.
