Comora Shumpert’s Obituary Comora Shumpert was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi in the Dorsey Community on March 13, 1929 to Clinton (Preach) Shumpert and Birda Dabbs. A graduate of from Pleasant Grove High School, later pursued a Bachelors of Science Degree from Rust College and a Masters Degree from the University of Mississippi. In 1949 Comora Shumpert met and married her husband Edward S. Horton, to this union three devoted son’s were born.

She was a devoted and life-long member of Piney Grove Baptist Church known today as Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was loyal in serving in various capacities the Junior Usher Board, Sunday School Secretary, Secretary of Building Fund, Youth BTU Teacher, a member of the Senior Choir, the Mother Board, 5th Sunday Missionary for the Community, member of the National Baptist Convention, being involved with the Spring Hill District. She was very active and loyal at one time until her health begin to failed with the Heroines of Jericho Queen Shumpert Court #308 and Order of the Golden Circle #119 where she served as Associate Loyal Lady Ruler until her death and a member of the Rust College Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Iyanda Horton, her brother, Gaddis Shumpert.
